IT’S TIME TO RENEW EDUCATION

Millages have been an important source of revenue for the New Orleans public school system for more than 50 years.  At the end of 2008, the current millages used to fund textbooks and classroom materials, teacher salaries, and facilities maintenance will expire.  On July 19th, you will have the opportunity to vote to renew the existing millage that will allow our public schools to continue on the path to progress.

ALL SCHOOLS BENEFIT

Revenue generated by the millage funds ALL schools: Recovery School District, Orleans Parish School Board, and Charter operated schools.  The millage funds virtually every aspect of public education, from textbooks and supplies to teacher salaries and facilities.

LEAPING AHEAD

“Across-the-board improvements reflected in Orleans school test scores.”

 -The Times-Picayune May, 2006

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

If the millage is not renewed, every charter and traditional school will lose approximately $1000 per pupil annually.

RAISING EXPECTATIONS

“This amount of growth doesn’t happen very often, so I’m very proud of this improvement.  I think we can expect even more improvement next year, not only because of the reforms that have been implemented, but also because we’ve raised expectation.”

-State Superintendent Paul Pastorek
